Social vulnerability is the ability of an individual or group to anticipate, cope with, and resist and recover from natural or man-made hazards. We used socio-economic data to classify census tracts in Virginia based on their social vulnerability.
This index provides an estimate of the level of social vulnerability in the census tract based on socio-economic data.

Classification - Scores:

* more than 1.5:
Very High Social Vulnerability

* 1.0 to 1.5:
High Social Vulnerability

* 0.0 to 1.0:
Moderate Social Vulnerability

* -1.0 to 0.0:
Low Social Vulnerability

* less than -1:
Very Low Social Vulnerability
We used housing data to classify census tracts in Virginia based on the vulnerability of the housing stock to natural and man-made hazards.
This index measures the potential exposure to hazardous and toxic substances based on the types of facilities and amount of hazardous and toxic pollutants in the census tract.

Very High Potential Hazardous/Toxic Exposure

* 1.0 to 1.5:
High Potential Hazardous/Toxic Exposure

* 0.0 to 1.0:
Moderate Potential Hazardous/Toxic Exposure
